The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) turned over 20 electric buses to Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) composed of persons with disabilities (PWDs) on June 27 at a ceremony in Quezon City.
This initiative, part of the PWD-Electric Transportation Service Project, aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities while promoting accessible mobility for PWDs.
The buses will be operated by the SLPAs, which include 115 members from 10 Metro Manila local government units.
Funded partially by DSWD livelihood grants and Global Electric Transport Philippines, the project is described by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian as the most innovative program under the SLP to date.
Discussions are underway to convert the e-buses into public transport accessible to all PWDs, expanding their reach beyond corporate service.
