DSWD AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS UNITE TO ASSIST TYPHOON-AFFECTED

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is coordinating with local government units (LGUs) to respond to Tropical Storm Kristine.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao reported that the Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) has been actively communicating with regional directors to ensure disaster preparedness measures are in place.

Leo Quintilla, DSWD’s officer in charge of logistics, emphasized using pre-positioned family food packs (FFPs) for affected areas, with a total of 176,436 boxes ready for distribution.

As part of their efforts, the DSWD has already provided 1,020 FFPs to residents in Itbayat, Batanes, with more aid being distributed in Sabtang.

A Philippine Coast Guard vessel is scheduled to transport additional FFPs to Batanes on October 27, weather permitting.
