Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon flew to General Santos City on Monday to personally assess the damage caused by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao.
Accompanied by officials from the OCD, DepEd, DSWD, and DOH, Dizon led inspections of affected communities to determine the extent of damage to critical infrastructure.
The assessment focused on hospitals, schools, government buildings, roads, bridges, and other public facilities to identify structures that may pose safety risks.
Dizon said the deployment of assessment teams was ordered following Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure a swift government response.
He also directed the immediate repair of damaged roads and bridges to keep emergency responders and relief supplies moving efficiently to quake-affected areas.
