A fallen electric pole and a collapsed billboard caused the temporary closure of lanes along C5 Katipunan near Ateneo de Manila University on July 19, as Severe Tropical Storm Crising brought strong winds and heavy rain to Metro Manila.
The northbound lane was fully closed after a Meralco post fell and struck two vehicles, while the southbound lane was partially blocked after a billboard collapsed onto a van and an SUV.
Emergency response teams from the MMDA and other agencies were immediately deployed to manage the scene, reroute traffic, and begin clearing operations.
By noon, one lane was reopened to vehicles, while light traffic was rerouted through Ateneo’s internal roads and alternate routes like Aurora Boulevard were recommended.
Authorities urged motorists to avoid the affected area as clearing efforts continued and safety measures were enforced.
