The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has received 20 drones from Australia, valued at P34 million, to enhance its air patrol capabilities over the West Philippine Sea.
The drones, consisting of 15 short-range, four medium-range, and one long-range unit, were formally handed over by Australian Ambassador HK Yu in a ceremony held in Bataan.
In addition to the drones, Australian specialists provided training for PCG personnel, enabling them to operate these advanced systems.
PCG Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan highlighted that the drones would extend the reach of patrols, improve fuel efficiency, and reduce risks for personnel.
The Australian donation strengthens maritime cooperation between the two nations and supports the PCG’s modernization efforts, with further contributions expected under a strategic partnership agreement.
