The Department of Justice (DOJ) assured that criminal charges against Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy in Philippine courts remain unaffected by a plea deal involving his former assistant, Marissa Dueñas, in the U.S. Dueñas pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government by arranging sham marriages but had other charges, including human trafficking and forced labor, dropped.
The DOJ emphasized that this plea agreement has no impact on Quiboloy’s ongoing cases in the Philippines, which include child abuse and human trafficking charges.
Dueñas, along with other KOJC members, helped organize fraudulent marriages to bypass U.S. immigration laws.
U.S. authorities continue to pursue cases against other KOJC members, with a trial set for May 2025.
