The decision on whether the Philippines will rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC) rests solely with President Marcos, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Despite calls to submit findings from House hearings on drug war killings to the ICC, the government maintains its stance of not returning to the court.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin emphasized that the President is unlikely to change his position on the matter.
Human rights advocates urge the government to cooperate with the ICC in light of new revelations, but Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra suggested that evidence from the House hearings should first be handled by local agencies for further investigation.
The hearings include allegations that former President Duterte offered cash rewards for the killing of drug suspects during his administration.
