The Department of Justice (DOJ) has directed the filing of child abuse and human trafficking charges against Apollo Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church, and five associates.
This move, announced by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, precedes a Senate hearing investigating alleged exploitation and abuse by Quiboloy and his cohorts.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, heading the committee probing the accusations, welcomed the DOJ’s decision.
Quiboloy has been summoned to the Senate hearing, with Hontiveros warning of potential arrest for non-compliance.
The DOJ’s order includes charges of sexual abuse of a minor and human trafficking in Davao City and Pasig City, respectively. Hontiveros views the decision as a crucial step toward justice and healing for victims.
She emphasizes the Senate’s commitment to legislative measures safeguarding women and children. Quiboloy’s current whereabouts remain undisclosed.
