The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) assured unpaid Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia that they are working with the Saudi government to release their benefits.
Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac announced that he recently returned from Saudi Arabia, where he discussed the issue affecting around 2,000 OFWs.
To date, 2,500 OFWs have received their claims totaling 130 million Saudi Riyals, with more payments expected soon.
The DMW aims to have most claims settled by the end of the year and is also exploring improvements in bilateral agreements and job opportunities for Filipinos in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi government had previously committed a 2-billion Saudi Riyal fund to address the unpaid wages issue.
