The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged local government units to increase investment in barangay tanods, highlighting their important role in school security.
The appeal came three days after the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
The DILG emphasized the need to equip tanods with radios, vests, and proper training to enhance their effectiveness.
Tanods assist by coordinating with police and school officials, managing traffic, and ensuring safety for students, parents, and teachers.
The department stressed that their work complements the efforts of the Philippine National Police and the Department of Education.
