DEPED SETS START OF SCHOOL YEAR 2023-2024 ON AUGUST 29

The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that public schools will open on August 29, 2023. This is the official start of the new school year.

Private schools may choose to open on any date starting from the first Monday of June to the last day of August. This is because the law that sets the length of the school year allows private schools to have more flexibility in their school calendar.

The DepEd had previously set the start of the next school year on August 28, 2023, but this date was later declared a holiday. The department has yet to release the final school calendar, which will include the number of school days.

Some groups are urging the DepEd to revert to the old school calendar, which would start in June.

They argue that the current school calendar is too long and that students experience extreme heat during the later months of the school year. The DepEd has not yet decided whether to change the school calendar.

The final decision on the school calendar will be made by the DepEd.

However, officials have said that any changes to the school calendar would be implemented gradually to ensure that there will still be breaks between school years.
