DEPED SCRAPS BRIGADA ESKWELA CONTESTS

The Department of Education (DepEd) has decided to remove contests from its annual Brigada Eskwela campaign to avoid schools and teachers asking for contributions.

The purpose of this decision is to ensure that the cleanup activity is not turned into a means of solicitation.

DepEd spokesperson Undersecretary Michael Poa mentioned that although the agency will still acknowledge its partners, there will no longer be awards given to schools and teachers.

DepEd had previously received approximately 44 million donations from partners for public schools across the country, as well as 1.6 million donations specifically for Tarlac National High School.

Brigada Eskwela, which will take place from August 14 to 19 which aims to prepare all 47,678 public schools nationwide for the upcoming school opening on August 29.
