DEPED CUTS TEACHER PAPERWORK, BOOSTS SHS PRACTICAL TRAINING

The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) have signed a memorandum integrating industry-based training into the senior high school (SHS) curriculum starting this school year.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the revamped SHS program aims to better prepare students for employment, self-employment, or entrepreneurship through a decongested curriculum and expanded work immersion hours.

Angara also announced efforts to revive public-private partnerships to address the shortage of 165,000 classrooms nationwide.

Meanwhile, the ARAL program and Bawat Bata Makababasa initiative aim to improve literacy, with free tutorials for around three million students.

To reduce teacher workload, DepEd has cut required paperwork by 57 percent, limiting teachers to just five core forms.
