DEPED CALLS FOR BETTER TEACHER TRAINING AMID K-12 CURRICULUM CHANGES

The Department of Education (DepEd) emphasized the need to enhance teacher training to recover from learning losses and meet modern classroom demands.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara, speaking at a symposium, highlighted efforts like a partnership with the Philippine Normal University to improve teacher training.

A recent EDCOM 2 report revealed many teachers struggle with complex tasks, while a study showed over half of teacher training schools underperformed in licensure exams.

Meanwhile, the House approved a bill amending K-12, allowing Grade 10 students to bypass senior high through an advanced placement exam.

Critics of K-12 cite poor job outcomes for graduates, with only 20% entering the workforce.
