DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CONSIDERS AI GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOLS

The Department of Education (DepEd) is considering a policy standard for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools, recognizing its potential benefits for both students and teachers.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara highlighted that AI can enhance lesson delivery and assist in research, allowing teachers to save time and enabling students to study in advance.

However, he also expressed concerns about the potential for AI misuse, such as cheating, and emphasized the need for policies that enforce responsible usage among students.

To support this initiative, Angara suggested that applications be developed to detect AI usage in student work, ensuring that all educators stay current with technological advancements.

Additionally, the Teacher Education Council has initiated a nationwide online survey to gather input for reviewing and redesigning the pre-service education curriculum for teachers, aiming to align it with contemporary educational needs.
