Negros Occidental recorded a 296% increase in dengue cases from January 1 to 18, 2025, with 250 cases and two fatalities compared to just 63 cases during the same period in 2024, according to the provincial health office.
Last year, the province saw 6,799 cases and 22 deaths, marking a 354% rise from 2023’s figures.
Bago City reported the highest number of infections in 2024, followed by San Carlos City and Hinobaan.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City reported 22 dengue cases from January 5 to 11, a 47.6% increase compared to last year, though no fatalities were recorded.
Health officials urged communities to strengthen anti-dengue efforts, including proper sanitation and mosquito control.
