Dengue cases in Davao City have declined, with 2,117 cases recorded from January to June this year compared to 2,876 during the same period last year, according to the City Health Office (CHO).
Melodina Babante, coordinator of the Tropical Diseases Prevention and Control Unit, attributed the decrease to the recent dry season but warned of a potential rise in cases due to the rainy season.
To combat dengue, the city government has mandated all 182 barangays to establish a Barangay Mosquito-Borne Diseases Task Force (BMDTF), though only 32 have complied so far.
Babante emphasized the importance of community cooperation and the 4S strategies: searching and destroying mosquito breeding areas, self-protection, early medical consultation, and supporting fogging in hotspots.
The CHO plans to hold forums with barangay captains to discuss the creation and significance of BMDTFs to effectively address dengue cases.
