The Bureau of Customs (BOC) vowed to immediately investigate the luxury car collection of the Discaya family, owners of construction firms linked to multi-billion-peso flood control projects.
Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the agency will verify if the 40 high-end vehicles featured in media interviews were legally imported and if proper duties and taxes were paid.
The BOC clarified that it can issue a Letter of Authority to inspect cars in warehouses or commercial establishments, but a court order is needed for residential properties.
The Discayas, who flaunted brands like Bentley, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz, have faced scrutiny amid corruption allegations tied to their firms’ P30-billion worth of contracts since 2022.
Mayors Vico Sotto and Raisa Treñas have both raised concerns over anomalous, substandard, and even non-existent flood control projects linked to the family.
