Trial courts in Pasig City and Quezon City have approved Senator Risa Hontiveros’ request for televangelist Apollo Quiboloy to attend a Senate inquiry on October 23 regarding his alleged abuse of members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
Hontiveros, who chairs the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, also sought permission for Quiboloy’s co-accused to appear.
In her order, Pasig RTC Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa directed the Pasig City jail warden and the Philippine National Police custodial center to escort Quiboloy and his co-accused while ensuring maximum security.
Quiboloy had previously opposed the request, claiming it constituted legislative overreach as the issues were already being litigated.
However, Judge Estacio-Montesa referenced a Supreme Court ruling indicating that legislative investigations can proceed alongside ongoing court proceedings.
