The House of Representatives quad committee has invited former President Rodrigo Duterte to testify regarding allegations of a reward system for extrajudicial killings (EJKs) during his administration.
The hearing will investigate claims, highlighted by retired police colonel Royina Garma, that police were incentivized to kill suspects in the drug war.
In parallel, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will conduct its own probe, led by Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III.
Lawmakers, including House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, have called for an independent fact-finding commission to further investigate EJKs.
The Commission on Human Rights expressed optimism about the investigations, noting that recent testimonies align with their own findings on the drug war’s human rights abuses.
