The Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to file an election offense case against former Bamban mayor Alice Guo for material misrepresentation related to her citizenship.
Comelec chair George Erwin Garcia stated that they have not received a response from Guo regarding the complaint, and they will formally charge her in the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Tarlac.
Despite Guo facing several other legal issues, Garcia emphasized that they will pursue this case vigorously.
There is also a proposal to transfer the trial to a Metro Manila court for better prosecution oversight, as Guo is currently in custody at the Pasig City Jail on separate charges, including qualified human trafficking.
If convicted of the election offense, Guo could face one to six years in prison and be permanently disqualified from holding public office.
