COMELEC DROPS BAYAN, 49 PARTY-LIST GROUPS FROM REGISTRY

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has canceled the registration of 50 party-list groups, including Bayan Muna, Magdalo, and Buhay, for failing to meet election participation or performance requirements.

Under Resolution 11281, 10 groups were delisted for not participating in the two preceding elections, while the others failed to meet applicable requirements for obtaining seats.

The decision is based on Republic Act 7941, or the Party-List System Act, and related Comelec rules.

The law authorizes the poll body to cancel registrations after due notice and hearing.

The move is part of Comelec’s enforcement of rules governing party-list groups’ continued participation in elections.
