The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) plans to resume its coin deposit machine (CoDM) program by mid-2026, aiming to expand deployment beyond Metro Manila.
Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the 25 existing machines are being upgraded and checked, with procurement of 50 new units expected next year.
The CoDMs, initially introduced in June 2023, allow deposited coins to be credited to digital wallets or converted into shopping vouchers, processing almost P1.5 billion in coins so far.
The BSP intends to deploy some machines to provinces like Cebu and Pampanga to avoid concentrating them solely in the capital.
The central bank emphasized that technical upgrades are being finalized to ensure secure and efficient operations when the program relaunches.
