Filipino cue artist Johann Chua dominated his opening match at the World Pool Championship in Jeddah, defeating Mohamed Al-Balkhi 9-0 to advance to the second round.
Despite the convincing win, Chua said he was not fully satisfied with his performance, attributing his success to his opponent’s missed shots and hoping to improve in upcoming matches.
The Philippine team showed strong form overall, with 16 of their 18 players, including former champion Carlo Biado, moving on to the next phase.
Other notable Filipino winners were Jefrey Roda, Anton Raga, and Mark Kalagayan, who advanced through various brackets.
Only two Filipino players, Rogelio Sotero and Marlon Cañeda, failed to reach the second round.
