The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are confident the Philippines will achieve its 10th consecutive year in tier one of the US Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report.
CFO Chairman Dante Ang II highlighted the agency’s efforts in protecting vulnerable Filipinos, especially women and children, through programs like the Guidance and Counseling Program.
DOJ Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty emphasized that maintaining tier one status depends on the government’s comprehensive efforts in prosecution, protection, and prevention, despite the ongoing presence of trafficking cases.
Both officials also raised concerns about emerging challenges such as online sexual exploitation and surrogacy scams involving Filipino women abroad.
They stressed the importance of continued vigilance and interagency coordination to safeguard Filipinos from trafficking and exploitation.
