CAYETANO URGED TO IDENTIFY INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN ‘SCRIPTED INTERVIEWS

Leonel Abasola, president of the National Press Club (NPC), urged Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano to specify which radio stations are allegedly conducting scripted interviews, citing potential damage to mainstream media’s credibility.

Abasola emphasized the need for Cayetano to substantiate his claims, cautioning against broad accusations that could unfairly tarnish the reputations of reputable journalists.

The controversy arose from a Senate committee hearing where Cayetano suggested advance questions may have been sent to media outlets, a claim disputed by Sen. Nancy Binay, leading to a heated exchange.

Abasola criticized Cayetano’s conduct during the hearing, describing his remarks towards Binay as ungentlemanly and calling for a more respectful approach in legislative proceedings.

He underscored the importance of transparency in identifying any media misconduct to uphold journalistic integrity.
