On Friday, Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco urged the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to rigorously enforce the SIM Registration law to combat text scams across the Philippines.
Tiangco, who chairs the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology, emphasized that strict implementation would help prevent and apprehend those behind these scams.
He stressed the need for a proactive, multi-stakeholder approach to effectively tackle cybercrime.
Tiangco also highlighted the importance of engaging various parties to safeguard Filipinos from identity theft and financial fraud.
The SIM Registration law, designed to curb such fraudulent activities, was approved in 2022.
