BUREAU OF IMMIGRATION RECEIVES ₱50M FUNDING FROM PAGCOR

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has received a ₱50-million grant from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) to assist in the deportation of illegal foreign workers involved in unlawful Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs).

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the funds would help cover travel expenses for those who cannot afford tickets home, easing the agency’s financial burden.

The grant, to be released in two equal tranches, is outlined in a memorandum of agreement signed with Pagcor Chairman Alejandro Tengco.

Viado emphasized that deporting illegal POGO workers remains the BI’s top priority and pledged to further speed up the process.

He also lauded the grant as part of a whole-of-government effort to address national security threats linked to illegal online operations.
