AGAP party-list Rep. Nicanor Briones admitted he was the lawmaker caught on camera watching a cockfight video during a congressional session, but clarified that it was not an online sabong game.
He explained that the video was sent to him by his nephew as an invitation to a traditional cockfighting event, which he has no interest in attending or betting on.
Briones denied participating in online sabong, saying he is not familiar with digital payment systems and does not engage in such activities.
He expressed concern that the controversy might unfairly involve the House of Representatives and suggested it could be part of a smear campaign by his critics.
Despite the viral photo, Briones emphasized that he is not a cockfighting enthusiast and has never visited a cockfighting arena.
