Bohol 3rd District Representative Alexie Besas-Tutor has proposed banning children aged 15 and below from creating social media accounts to strengthen online protection for minors.
Under her proposal, 16- and 17-year-olds would need verified parental consent and accounts with controls on privacy, contacts, content, spending, and screen time.
Tutor also wants similar safeguards on online gaming platforms, citing risks involving strangers, inappropriate content, online spending, and exploitation.
She said stronger privacy protections are also needed to limit the collection and sharing of children’s personal data.
Tutor urged the government to enforce existing child-protection laws and Congress to pass additional measures to improve online safety for young people.
