John Krasinski’s film “IF” topped the box office this weekend with a $35 million debut in North America, slightly below projections.
The movie, featuring Ryan Reynolds and several A-list voices, cost $110 million to produce and grossed $55 million globally.
Paramount is optimistic about its long-term success, especially with summer break approaching for students. Despite mixed reviews, audience reception was positive, reminiscent of last year’s “Elemental,” which had a strong box office run despite a slow start.
Other notable openings included “The Strangers—Chapter 1” with $12 million and “Back to Black” with $2.9 million.
