Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed that the Philippines will not rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC) despite calls for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to submit findings from a recent House investigation into former President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war.
The investigation included testimony from retired police colonel Royina Garma, who revealed Duterte allegedly offered cash rewards for killing drug suspects.
The National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers urged Marcos to submit the investigation materials to the ICC to support its case on crimes against humanity.
Bersamin emphasized that Marcos is unlikely to change his stance on not cooperating with the ICC.
Human rights groups estimate that 12,000 to 30,000 people were killed in the drug war, though official government records report 6,200 deaths.
