The International Criminal Court (ICC) has not issued an arrest warrant against former PNP chief and now Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed on July 20.
Bersamin said that if an ICC warrant is later issued through Interpol, Philippine authorities may be compelled to arrest Dela Rosa, similar to the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The government will follow existing procedures unless the Supreme Court issues new directives regarding ICC-related cases.
Dela Rosa has been named as a co-perpetrator in the ICC’s war on drugs case, in which thousands of alleged extrajudicial killings occurred during Duterte’s administration.
Despite the Philippines’ withdrawal from the Rome Statute, the country remains an Interpol member, which influences how ICC warrants are handled locally.
