Beep announced on January 23 that it will remove all Stored Value Updaters (SVUs) and Express Renewal Devices (ERDs) from rail stations due to outdated 3G technology.
Commuters can still use the Beep app to check card balances and load transactions via NFC-enabled phones.
Beep Cards remain functional and can be used at regular ticket vending machines and station tellers.
The Department of Transportation confirmed that the removal of SVUs and ERDs does not affect the usability of the cards.
The outdated devices are expected to be returned within the first quarter of the year.
