Former president Rodrigo Duterte has committed to attend the Senate hearing on extrajudicial killings (EJKs) related to his administration’s war on drugs, set for Monday, according to Sen. Ronald dela Rosa.
This will be the first time Duterte will appear in such an investigation, led by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
Senate President Francis Escudero emphasized that while Duterte will be treated with respect, there will be no special treatment.
Former senator Leila de Lima, citing a 2009 law on crimes against humanity, highlighted the potential legal implications of EJKs under Duterte’s rule.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III is leading the probe, which will also hear from other key witnesses and victims’ families.
