Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has urged the revision of the city’s speed limit ordinance, citing that some current limits are impractical for certain roads.
Magalong said Ordinance 18-2019, which sets a 20-30 kph limit across the city, does not suit areas like South Drive, Loakan Road, Kennon Road, and Marcos Highway, where higher speeds are more appropriate.
The City Engineering Office, Traffic Enforcement Unit, and City Legal Office are now drafting proposed amendments for city council review.
The current ordinance was implemented to reduce accidents, mainly caused by human error, and includes plans for acquiring speed guns and radar sensors for enforcement.
Additional traffic safety tools like breath analyzers and warning signage have also been rolled out, especially near schools.
