Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has called for collaboration among city offices to address the issue of vagrancy, particularly regarding mental health.
He highlighted the importance of support from various departments to enhance the effectiveness of existing programs by the Mental Health Unit and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
Following his directive, a coordinated effort involving the Mental Health Unit, Emergency Medical Service, police, and psychology interns led to the rescue of five vagrants during operations on October 21.
Four of those rescued were discharged to their families, while one was placed in a shelter at CSWDO for ongoing care.
Mental Health Unit Coordinator Ricky Ducas Jr. noted an increase in mentally ill vagrants and emphasized the need for community involvement in addressing their care and reintegration into society.
