Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya has promised the timely distribution of free school supplies to public elementary students for the next school year, aiming to avoid delays experienced this year.
The delays were partly due to the midterm elections and recent revisions to the Government Procurement Reform Act.
To address this, Gasataya has instructed early preparations and procurement processes while ensuring adherence to government procurement rules.
The Department of Education is processing a P29-million request for school supplies, benefiting over 72,000 students in the city’s 44 public schools.
The initiative is based on a 2016 ordinance mandating annual free educational materials for all public elementary pupils in Bacolod.
