Soldiers and policemen arrested Charisse Bernadine Bañez, a regional official of the weakened New People’s Army, along with seven others in a joint operation in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, on June 13.
Bañez, secretary of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee, is wanted for multiple high-profile criminal cases.
The suspects were captured in separate raids with the help of local officials and former NPA commanders who have surrendered.
They are now in the custody of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division and the Police Regional Office-13.
Military and police officials hailed the arrest as a significant victory against the terrorist group, crediting close cooperation among security forces and local government units.
