ARMY EXECUTIVES: DEPED FUNDING WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN CERTIFIED WITH FULL DISCLOSURE

Philippine Army officials told a House committee on Thursday that they would not have issued certifications for youth training programs to the Department of Education (DepEd) if they had known the funds would be used for unrelated expenses, such as rewarding informants.

The officials, including retired Maj. Gen. Adonis Bajao and other senior officers explained that they only provide certifications for activities they are directly involved in.

Their statements followed concerns raised by Rep. Gerville Luistro regarding DepEd’s alleged misuse of Army certifications to justify P15 million in expenditures meant for informant rewards.

The Commission on Audit confirmed that these certifications were used as justification for these payments, which have raised serious questions about financial management within DepEd.

The investigation into DepEd and the Office of the Vice President continues, with potential implications for Vice President Sara Duterte regarding fund allocation and accountability.
