The Department of Agriculture (DA) said the Philippines has shipped another batch of fresh cardava bananas to New Zealand, expanding the country’s agricultural exports in the Oceania region.
The shipment, consisting of 1,400 boxes of export-quality saba bananas from accredited farms in Davao del Norte, follows a successful maiden export earlier this year.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel said the repeat order reflects growing international demand for Philippine farm products and supports efforts to diversify export markets.
The DA said expanding exports is expected to increase farmers’ incomes, create rural jobs, and strengthen the country’s agricultural sector.
Philippine Statistics Authority data also showed banana export earnings rose 18% to $773.77 million from January to May compared with the same period last year.
