Filipina tennis player Alex Eala bowed out in the first round of the French Open in Paris after a 4-6, 2-6 loss to American opponent Iva Jovic.
Despite the early exit in singles, Eala will still earn €87,000 (over P6 million) in prize money for her participation in the prestigious Grand Slam event.
Her campaign continues in the doubles competition, where she will team up with Canada’s Victoria Mboko.
The pair faces a tough opening-round matchup against Leylah Fernandez of Canada and Diana Shnaider of Russia.
Eala is looking to rebound in doubles as she continues her rising presence on the international tennis stage.
