Ike Barilea, a 21-year-old member of the Alas Pilipinas men’s national volleyball program, passed away on Tuesday, just two days after his birthday.
The national team announced his death on Facebook, expressing grief over the loss of a vibrant teammate, though no cause of death was disclosed.
Barilea, a spiker from Negros, gained recognition leading 1Silay Volleyball Club to bronze in the 2025 U21 National Finals, earning a spot in the Alas Pilipinas pool for the FIVB Men’s World Championship.
He also played for Cignal in the 2025 AVC Men’s Champions League in Japan and for Santa Rosa City during the 2022 Spikers’ Turf season.
Friends, teammates, and fans remembered him as a dedicated athlete whose energy and commitment left a lasting mark on Philippine volleyball.
