Alas, Pilipinas suffered a straight-sets defeat to South Korea, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22, yesterday at the AVC Volleyball Cup in Candon City, putting their semifinal hopes in jeopardy.
The loss marked their second setback in Pool A, leaving the Filipinas on the brink of elimination as South Korea and Chinese Taipei lead the group.
Despite a strong third-set push, where they led 19-16, the Filipinas faltered as South Korea capitalized on defensive gaps to close out the match.
The team now faces a do-or-die match against Chinese Taipei, needing a win and favorable results in other games to stay alive in the tournament.
Alas, skipper Alyssa Valdez said the team will “fight with all our hearts” in their crucial final pool match.
