Agriculture in the Philippines is expected to grow between 1.5 and 2.5 percent this year, driven by strong performances in the crops and poultry sectors, according to the University of Asia and the Pacific’s Center for Food and Agri Business (UA&P-CFA).
Despite this positive outlook, challenges such as aging farmers, fragmented farms, and underdeveloped value chains continue to limit growth potential.
Poultry is projected to grow by 8 to 9 percent, while the livestock and fisheries sectors may face declines due to ongoing production issues.
Innovation and adoption of new technologies like drones, AI, and climate-smart farming are seen as crucial for the sector’s future resilience and sustainability.
UA&P-CFA stresses that agriculture remains vital for national security and inclusive development amid rising food demand and climate change threats.
