AFP MONITORS 35 CHINESE VESSELS IN KEY WEST PHILIPPINE SEA AREAS

The Armed Forces of the Philippines reported monitoring 15 Chinese warships and 20 China Coast Guard vessels roaming four strategic areas in the West Philippine Sea from May 4 to 11.

Most of the vessels were spotted near Scarborough Shoal, while additional ships were monitored around Pag-asa Island, Sabina Shoal, and Ayungin Shoal.

The AFP said the continued presence of Chinese vessels reflects what it described as illegal, coercive, aggressive, and deceptive activities within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.

Retired Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad assured the public that the military will continue sea and air patrols to protect Philippine sovereignty and sovereign rights.

Trinidad also said no coordinated Chinese military exercises were observed during the recent Balikatan Exercises despite Beijing’s claims of conducting operations near Bajo de Masinloc.
