The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that an average of 900 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are repatriated each month.
DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac stated that most repatriation requests come from the families of OFWs, with recruitment agencies covering the costs for about 70 percent of the repatriates.
However, around 30 percent face delays in returning home due to pending legal cases.
From August 2022 to July 2023, the DMW received 33,650 repatriation requests and has resolved 80 percent, bringing home 26,994 OFWs, including over 1,100 from conflict zones.
Additionally, around 8,000 job opportunities in Taiwan are available for OFWs, with no placement fees, and will be offered at job fairs in Laoag and Vigan on September 9 and 11.
