54% SUPPORT BAN ON POLITICAL DYNASTIES AMID CONGRESSIONAL PUSH

A Pulse Asia survey released Monday shows that 54% of Filipinos support the immediate passage of a law banning political dynasties, while 18% oppose it and 27% remain undecided.

Support is highest in Metro Manila at 69%, followed by 59% in Luzon outside the capital and the Visayas, but only 34% in Mindanao.

Despite the constitutional prohibition under Article II Section 26, no law has been passed, allowing entrenched political families—including President Marcos and House Speaker Dy—to continue dominating local and national politics.

President Marcos has directed Senate and House leaders to prioritize anti-dynasty bills, with at least 18 proposals currently pending in Congress.

Analysts warn that political dynasties hinder democracy and economic equity by consolidating power and limiting public access to government resources.
