The United States deported 24 Filipinos allegedly involved in minor criminal activities as part of a broader immigration crackdown under the Trump administration, according to Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez.
He urged undocumented Filipinos in the US to voluntarily return to the Philippines or work on legalizing their status to avoid deportation.
Romualdez expressed optimism for undocumented Filipinos already working and paying taxes, noting they may have a chance to gain legal status if sponsored by their employers.
The Philippine embassy and consulates in the US pledged to protect the rights and welfare of Filipinos, regardless of their immigration status, and to provide necessary consular services.
This comes amid President Trump’s promise to implement the largest deportation effort in US history, with hundreds of undocumented immigrants already arrested and deported.
