Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said the proposed 2027 national budget should focus on measures that will drive economic growth and help the country cope with global and domestic challenges.
He said the spending plan must address issues such as high fuel prices, the threat of El Niño, and rising public debt.
The Department of Budget and Management has proposed a P7.2-trillion budget for 2027, equivalent to 21.7 percent of the country’s GDP.
Gatchalian said the Senate will carefully scrutinize the proposal to ensure the proper use of public funds and prioritize programs in infrastructure, education, and health.
He also assured that the chamber will adjust its schedule to accommodate budget deliberations alongside other legislative duties.
